Macapá's riverfront is where the city's geography becomes obvious. The Amazon is already immense here, more like an inland sea than a river, and the promenade near the fortress is the easiest place to take it in.
Come in the late afternoon, when the heat drops and families begin to appear. It pairs naturally with the Fortaleza de São José and the old centre.
