Ponta Negra is the resort end of Manaus — a riverside neighbourhood about 13 km from the centre built around the city's main beach and promenade. High-rise apartment blocks and the larger international hotels line the avenidas behind the beach, and the boardwalk fills with locals every evening for sundown and live music.
The atmosphere is markedly different from the workaday centro: cleaner streets, joggers, family restaurants, kiosks selling açaí. Convenient for visitors who want a quieter base and don't mind a short taxi ride into town for the historic sights.
