Caxambu is one of the old hydromineral spa towns of southern Minas Gerais, in the same water-circuit tradition as São Lourenço. Its rhythm is gentle: people come to walk under trees, taste mineral waters, ride the chairlift, and enjoy a mountain-town pace that belongs more to health resorts than to beach Brazil.
The centre of gravity is Parque das Águas, a large green park with a dozen mineral springs, each with its own chemical character. From inside the park, the Morro de Caxambu and Cable Car lift you to a viewpoint over the town and the Mantiqueira hills.
Caxambu is not dramatic, but it has a clear identity. Add the Church of Santa Isabel of Hungary, built from a story tied to Princess Isabel and the town's healing waters, and the place becomes a pleasant one-day stop for travellers already exploring the spa towns of Minas.
