The highest point on the island is a 982-metre granite peak that rises right behind Vila do Abraão. The climb is steep, taking about three hours up and two down, with a final scramble over bare rock to reach the bald summit. The view from the top takes in the whole archipelago of Angra dos Reis bay — hundreds of small islands strewn across blue water, with the mainland mountains beyond.
It is not a casual walk. The trail is rough, the humidity intense, and the final section involves using fixed ropes to climb the rock face. Most people go with a local guide hired in Abraão; expect to pay around R$120-150 per person. Bring at least two litres of water and proper footwear. The trail leaves from the back of Abraão and is signposted at the start.
