The Bosque Municipal Fábio Barreto is an urban forest of about 45 hectares in the northern part of the city centre — a proper piece of Atlantic Forest remnant, not just a park. Walking paths wind through the trees, and the forest is home to capuchin monkeys, toucans, and various other wildlife that tolerates the proximity of a large city. On weekend mornings, you will find families with children, joggers, and people sitting on benches under the shade.
The bosque also contains a small zoo, a lake where you can rent paddleboats, and a children's playground. It is the most popular green space in the city and gives Ribeirão Preto an outdoor character that not every interior Brazilian city manages to maintain. The main entrance is from Rua Mariana Junqueira. Admission is free and the park is open daily.
