A short heritage tram line runs through the historic centre of Santos, using restored 1920s wooden carriages of the kind that once made up the city's electric network. The route takes about 30 minutes and loops past the Bolsa do Café, the cathedral, the Casa do Café, the Estação do Valongo, and a handful of restored merchant houses.
A guide on board narrates in Portuguese (with English snippets in tourist season). It is unsentimental and well done, and the open-sided cars give a good view of the restored streets and the occasional patch of decay around the edges.
