Nossa Senhora do Carmo rounds out the historic centre's main church walk. It is less famous than São Francisco de Assis, but its Carmelite setting and rococo details make it worth adding if you are already exploring the old town on foot.
The pleasure here is cumulative. São João del Rei works best when you let the churches, bridges, and bells build a picture of the town rather than rushing from one isolated monument to another.
