São Luiz do Paraitinga is reached by road from Taubaté on the Rodovia Oswaldo Cruz, the highway that continues across the Serra do Mar toward Ubatuba. Buses from Taubaté serve the town, but they are not frequent enough to treat casually.
A car is strongly recommended if you want to combine the town with the Santa Virgínia section of Serra do Mar State Park or with rural attractions around Catuçaba.
