Trindade

Former fishing village south of Paraty, with rainforest down to the sand and a natural pool in the rocks

Trindade is a fishing village at the end of a steep road south of Paraty, on the edge of the Serra da Bocaina national park, where the Atlantic forest comes down the mountains straight onto the beaches. It was a hippie hideaway in the 1970s, and it keeps some of that air.

The village sits behind Praia do Meio and Praia de Fora, but the walks are the reason to come. A short trail leads over the headland to Praia do Cachadaço and, beyond the rocks at its end, the Piscina Natural do Cachadaço, a pool enclosed by giant boulders where the sea washes in clear and calm — one of the loveliest swims on this coast. Other paths lead up into the forest to waterfalls, and to the long, often empty Praia Brava.

There are pousadas and campsites in the village, and it is busy on summer weekends. Buses run from Paraty, about forty minutes away.
