Projeto Tamar's Ubatuba base is the town's best indoor-outdoor conservation stop. It opened in 1991 as Tamar's first base in a sea turtle feeding area on the Brazilian coast, and it remains the only Tamar base in São Paulo state.
The visitor centre has turtle tanks, exhibits, and education work aimed at explaining the problems fishing, pollution, and coastal development create for marine turtles. It is especially useful with children or on a rainy afternoon, but it is not just a fallback; it connects Ubatuba's beach life to the wildlife that uses the same coast.
