The Morro do Meio is the central hill of Ilha do Mel's south, a forested rise behind the village of Nova Brasília. A simple trail through the Atlantic Forest leads up in about 30 minutes, and the views from the top are over the narrow strip that joins the two halves of the island — a striking line of beach and dune with sea on both sides.
The Atlantic Forest here is a small surviving fragment of what once covered the entire Brazilian coast. Watch for sloths in the trees and the various small birds and monkeys that have colonised the island.
