Socaire is the last substantial village before the road climbs toward the altiplano lagoons. Terraced fields cut green lines into the slope, and the old adobe church looks out over a landscape that feels both cultivated and severe.
Many tours stop here for lunch or a short walk. It is a good place to notice how carefully water is managed in the Atacama; every patch of green has been earned.
