Toconao

Toconao is a small oasis village built of pale volcanic stone, with orchards, irrigation channels, and a quiet square that makes a useful pause between desert stops. Its church and separate bell tower are simple, handsome, and very northern Chile.

Do not expect a major town. Toconao's appeal is the contrast: shade, fruit trees, and human scale after the exposed salt flat.
