Duna Mayor is the great sand slope that gives Valle de la Luna its most satisfying walk. The trail climbs the ridge for views over salt crust, folded hills, and the Licancabur volcano far beyond San Pedro.
The climb is not technical, but the sand and dry air make it slower than it looks. Go gently and save energy for the descent, which is the fun part.
