Valle de la Muerte is the rougher neighbour to Valle de la Luna, a maze of dunes and eroded ridges closer to San Pedro. The name sounds dramatic, but the place earns at least some of it in the afternoon heat.
It is popular for sandboarding and wide desert views. If you go for activity rather than scenery, use a local operator; the dunes are harder on bodies and boards than they look.
