The Church of Achao, on Quinchao Island, is one of the oldest and most important wooden churches in the archipelago. Its weathered exterior is modest, but the interior has the deep calm of a building shaped by long use.
Getting there involves the ferry from Dalcahue and a slow island road, which is part of the charm. Achao feels like Chiloé turned down a notch.
