Puñihuil Penguins

The Islotes de Puñihuil, off the north-west coast near Ancud, are famous for penguin-watching boat trips. Small boats circle the islets while guides point out penguins, seabirds, and sometimes sea otters.

Trips depend on weather and sea conditions, and landings are not part of the experience. Go with patience, warm layers, and realistic expectations about wildlife.

A story
Puñihuil is unusual because Humboldt penguins from the north and Magellanic penguins from the south overlap here. The tiny islands are a biological meeting point, not just a cute boat trip.
