The Zona Franca de Iquique — Zofri to everyone — is the largest duty-free shopping zone in South America and the reason a lot of Chileans and Bolivians visit Iquique in the first place. It is a sprawling complex of warehouses and a covered mall at the north end of the city, full of electronics, perfumes, clothing, and household goods imported from Asia at tax-free prices.
It is not pretty and it is not a leisurely shopping experience, but if you want a cheap camera, a fridge, or a new laptop, this is the place. Closed on Sundays. Prices are sometimes negotiable in the warehouses, less so in the mall. Bring cash and bargaining patience.
