Puerto Varas's draws are mostly out of town and outdoors — the volcanoes, the lakes, the national parks. In town itself, the lakeside esplanade with its view across to Volcán Osorno is the centre of life, and the German Lutheran church on the hill is the most photographed building. Save a day for Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park; another for a Volcán Osorno day or, in winter, the small ski area on its lower slopes.
