Las Condes

Las Condes is Santiago's wealthy eastern district, home to the financial centre (the so-called Sanhattan cluster of glass skyscrapers), the best shopping malls (Parque Arauco, El Golf), and a dense concentration of international restaurants and corporate hotels. The Andes are very close here — the mountains are an immediate presence on the eastern horizon, and the drive into the Cajon del Maipo passes through the Las Condes suburbs.

It is not the most interesting neighbourhood for cultural exploration, but the Costanera Center — South America's tallest building and largest shopping complex — is here, and the observation deck (Sky Costanera) gives the best elevated view of the city. The neighbourhood also contains excellent sushi, Korean, and Peruvian restaurants that have followed the money east from the centre.
