The town's entrance sign — "Aracataca, donde el mundo se llama Macondo" (where the world is called Macondo) — sits at the southern edge of town and is the obligatory photograph for any literary visitor. The mural behind it shows yellow butterflies and the chestnut tree from the novel.
A two-minute stop. Most visitors do it on the way in or out by bus from Santa Marta.
