The wooden station building of the old Santa Marta-to-Fundación banana railway, opened in 1908 and closed in the 1980s. It is the station where, in the novel, soldiers of the United Fruit Company fired on striking banana workers in the central scene of One Hundred Years of Solitude. The real event — the 1928 banana massacre at nearby Ciénaga — provided the historical kernel.
The building survives empty but in passable condition, with an information board in Spanish describing both the actual history and the novel's adaptation. The tracks are derelict; you can walk along them to the edge of town.
