La Cevichería is one of the most consistently recommended restaurants in Cartagena's walled city, specialising in ceviche and cold seafood preparations with a Caribbean influence. The style is different from Peruvian ceviche — lighter on the acid, heavier on coconut milk and tropical fruit — and the quality of the fish is high, supplied by the same coast that makes this one of Colombia's great seafood cities.
The restaurant became internationally known after Anthony Bourdain visited and featured it in his television series, which predictably produced queues. It is advisable to book ahead or arrive early. Prices are higher than local maquis but reasonable by international standards. The octopus ceviche and the shrimp preparations are both excellent.
