Basílica Menor de la Inmaculada Concepción

Hand-carved stone basilica facing Jardín's main square, with a bell tower view.

Jardín's basilica dominates the main square, a grey stone church with pointed towers and a surprisingly bright interior. It was built in the early 20th century from hand-hewn stone quarried in the hills above town, and local tradition says parishioners carried stones down as penance.

The church works because of where it stands. Sit at one of the cafes on the square and the whole scene comes together: bright chairs, painted balconies, old men in hats, and the basilica catching the afternoon light. If the tower is open, climb it for a clean view over the tiled roofs and green valley.
