Rincón del Mar Beach

Long sandy Caribbean beach lined with seafood shacks and small hostels

The main beach of Rincón runs for over a kilometre along the front of the village — a wide stretch of grey-gold sand that shelves gently into the warm, calm water of the Gulf of Morrosquillo. There are no resorts, no high-rises, and no chain restaurants. The beachfront is a string of cantinas with plastic tables in the sand, hammocks slung between palms, and small family-run hostels behind.

The beach is busiest on weekends, when Colombians come down from Sincelejo and Cartagena to drink beer and eat fried fish. Weekdays are quiet. Watch the sand for sandflies in the late afternoon — they bite and the bites itch for days. Best sunsets in the area: look west across the gulf as the local fishermen come in.
