Baños sits at around 1,800 metres and has a mild climate year-round. The driest months are June to September, when the sky is clearest and views of Tungurahua most reliable. Rain can fall at any time of year, but the wet season (October to May) brings heavier afternoon showers and reduces visibility on the volcanic trails.
The October fiesta of the Virgen del Agua Santa draws pilgrims and visitors from across Ecuador and is the biggest event of the year. Semana Santa (Holy Week) also brings large crowds. The waterfall route is enjoyable in any season — actually more spectacular after rain when the flows are strongest. Volcano activity can occasionally force road closures and restrict access to higher trails, so check local conditions.
