From roughly June to September, humpback whales gather off Puerto López and Salango as part of their breeding season. Many Isla de la Plata trips include whale watching when conditions are right, and local operators also run shorter coastal trips from the pier.
The odds are good in season, but this is still open-water wildlife. Choose an operator that keeps distance, avoids crowding the animals, and is honest about sea conditions before departure.
