Restaurant du Vieux Bourg

The Vieux Bourg waterfront has several small Creole restaurants that change and shift over the years, but the strip along the rivermouth is consistently where you'll find the freshest fish in town — much of it landed at the nearby market the same morning. Expect grilled snapper, bouillon de poule (a thin, peppery broth that's a staple of Guianese home cooking), and accras (salt cod fritters) alongside more mainstream French bistro fare.

Prices are reasonable by Kourou standards, particularly at lunch. Several spots have outdoor seating directly on the water, making them more atmospheric than the centre-town restaurants. The evening crowd in Vieux Bourg tends to arrive late by French standards — 8pm is early; 9pm is normal.
