Linden–Lethem Road

The Linden–Lethem road is Guyana's main interior highway, running about 482km south from Linden through the jungle and the Rupununi savannahs to the Brazilian border town of Lethem. It is a rough, largely unpaved road that passes through some of the most remote territory in South America, traversing several river crossings and passing through Amerindian villages.

For overland travelers heading south to Brazil or into the Rupununi, Linden is the starting point. The journey to Lethem takes two days by minibus under normal conditions and considerably longer in the wet season when sections of the road can become impassable. Passenger trucks and minibuses depart from Linden; it is worth asking about road conditions before departing between May and August.
