Community-owned and run by the Makushi village of Surama, which sits in a savannah island ringed by the Pakaraima foothills. Ten packages run from two to six days — the Surama Sampler at the short end, then trips up the Burro Burro River, to Tiger Pond, Carahaa Landing, or Surama Mountain, and a six-day Surama In Depth.
You can also buy the pieces separately: a night in a benab with a hammock, meals, a guide, transport. Published rates assume a group of ten, so a couple pays more per head.
