Plaza Urundé and the Historic Centre

The centre of Concepción has the quiet, slightly dilapidated grace characteristic of Paraguayan inland towns. The main plaza, shaded by large trees, is flanked by the cathedral and a few surviving colonial-era buildings. Life here moves at the pace of the river — unhurried, with the town's main business happening in the early morning at the market and in the afternoon under the shade of the plaza's trees.

The cathedral, though not architecturally exceptional, anchors the square and is in active use. Nearby streets have a handful of old merchant houses, some still operating as hardware stores and provision suppliers to the river trade. The atmosphere is genuine frontier Paraguay — not a stage set, but a working town at the edge of the country's settled zone.
