The established Colca and Cotahuasi trekking outfit in Arequipa, run by Vlado Soto out of a shop on Jerusalén that also sells maps and rents gear — which is useful, because the canyon trek wants proper boots and most people arrive without them.
Colca is the obvious trip: down into the canyon, a night at the oasis at Sangalle, and the long climb out before dawn. Cotahuasi, deeper and far less visited, is the one worth asking about.
