The Pozo de Yanayacu (Well of Yanayacu) is a historic spring and well on the outskirts of Chachapoyas, associated with a legend about a powerful 17th-century bishop who summoned water from rock. The spring has been flowing continuously since colonial times and is considered both practically and spiritually significant to the city.
The site is modest in scale — a stone-lined well in a small park — but the legend and the uninterrupted flow of water through several centuries of drought and earthquake make it a genuine point of interest. Local guides include it on heritage walks of the area. For visitors interested in the religious and folk history of Andean colonial settlements, it makes a worthwhile short stop.
