The small green pool at the heart of the village. It is fringed by palms and reedy banks, with the white dune walls rising directly behind. From the surrounding paths you get the classic Huacachina view, especially good in the hour before sunset when the dunes glow and the lagoon reflects them.
The water is shallow, slightly sulphurous, and not suitable for swimming. Paddle boats and small wooden rowboats are sometimes available for rent — a slow turn around the lagoon takes 15 minutes and is a quiet thing to do in the heat of the afternoon.
