Eating Out

Huanchaco is one of the better places on Peru's northern coast to eat fresh seafood. The village has a strong cevichería tradition — the ceviche here is made with the catch of the day and seasoned in the northern Peruvian style, with ají amarillo and white corn rather than the leche de tigre heavy version found in Lima. Seafood soups (sopa de mariscos) and chicharrón de pescado are also common. Most restaurants are on or near the seafront and are unpretentious; prices are lower than in Trujillo.
