Pueblo Libre is a low-key residential district halfway between the centre and Miraflores. Most visitors come for the Museo Larco, the great pre-Columbian collection housed in an old viceregal mansion on a quiet side street. The neighbourhood has its own small Plaza Bolívar, the Museo Nacional de Arqueología, Antropología e Historia (covering 13,000 years of Peruvian history), and a couple of old-fashioned picanterías serving regional creole food.
The historic Antigua Taberna Queirolo on the plaza has been pouring pisco and chichas since 1880 — a good lunch stop after Larco. The neighbourhood is residential and safe and easily reached by taxi in 15 minutes from Miraflores.
