Morro de Calzada rises by itself from the valley west of Moyobamba, which is exactly why the view is so satisfying. The walk climbs through forest and rock to a summit where the Mayo valley spreads out in every direction.
The ascent is moderate rather than technical, but the heat can make it feel harder than the distance suggests. Start early, carry water, and do not rush the descent if the trail is damp.
