Tingana Reserve

Community-run flooded forest reserve explored by canoe from the upper Mayo River.

Tingana is the strongest nature day trip from Moyobamba if you can spare the early start. Visitors reach the reserve by road and boat, then move quietly by canoe through flooded forest where tree roots, palms, birds, and monkeys define the experience.

This is not a casual walk-up attraction; arrange transport and a guide in town. The reward is a very different kind of Amazon visit, intimate and slow, with the canoe doing most of the work.

A story
Tingana protects renaco and aguaje wetland forest, a habitat that feels half river and half woodland. Local families run the visits, so tourism here directly supports keeping the flooded forest standing.
