The main valley road runs along the south side of the Urubamba river, connecting Pisac, Calca, Yucay, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo. Frequent colectivos shuttle between these towns throughout the day; the typical fare for any leg is 3 to 8 soles. A taxi for a half-day with several stops is around 100 to 200 soles.
To reach the upper sites — Moray, Maras, Chinchero — you need to climb out of the valley onto the plateau, which is awkward by public transport. Most travellers take an organised tour from Cuzco or Urubamba, hire a taxi for the morning, or rent a bike (downhill biking from Maras to the salt pans and then down to Urubamba is a popular half-day option).
Walking between sites is possible but the valley is long — Pisac to Ollantaytambo is over 50 km along the road — so distances add up. Cycling is feasible on the main valley road but watch for traffic, especially in narrow sections.
