Twelve kilometres north of Colonia on Ruta 50, this is a working vineyard whose pitch is varietal expression — letting each grape taste of itself rather than blending towards a house style. They bottle red, rosé and white, and the tasting walks through the range in that order.
It is a quieter, less visited stop than the Carmelo bodegas and closer to town, which makes it the easy one to fit into a day when the ferry back is booked. The setting is farmland rather than the postcard river country further north.
Visits are arranged rather than scheduled, so message ahead. The coordinates come from the map they publish themselves.
