Termas del Daymán

The Termas del Daymán are the most popular hot springs complex near Salto, located 10 kilometres south of the city on Route 3. The springs are thermal and mineral-rich, pumped from underground aquifers at temperatures of around 37–42°C into a series of public and private pools. The water is slightly sulphurous but the Uruguayans swear by its restorative properties, and on weekends the complex fills with families from Salto and across the country.

The complex has evolved into something between a spa resort and a water park, with slides, wave pools, and quieter therapeutic pools alongside the original springs. Entry to the public pools is inexpensive. Several hotels in and around Daymán have their own private springs and offer day access. This is genuinely popular locally and worth experiencing — the sight of hundreds of Uruguayans soaking peacefully in steaming outdoor pools in an otherwise flat, agricultural landscape is oddly moving.
