Sabana Grande

Sabana Grande is the old commercial spine of Caracas — a long mostly pedestrianised boulevard running between Plaza Venezuela and Chacaíto, lined with shops, cafés, electronics stalls, and an array of inexpensive eateries. It was once the city's most fashionable promenade, where the bohemian Sabana Grande generation of writers and intellectuals met in the cafés through the 1950s and 60s; Gran Café at the corner with Pascual Navarro was the heart of that scene and is still operating.

The boulevard has had its rough patches since but remains one of the busiest pedestrian streets in the country. Three metro stations — Plaza Venezuela, Sabana Grande, and Chacaíto — line its length, making it easy to walk one way and ride back. Stay on the boulevard itself; the side streets get rougher quickly.
