The weekend market is the town's main draw for Caracas day-trippers, who come up the winding road to fill their boots with mountain produce. Stalls sell fresh strawberries, blackberries, peaches, and apples grown on the surrounding hillsides; jars of jam, cream, and honey; smoked sausages and hams; and the buttery Black Forest-style breads and pastries the town is known for.
Crafts include hand-knitted woollens (the temperature here drops sharply at night), woodcarvings, and small ceramics. The atmosphere is genuinely festive — buskers, choirs, sometimes folk dancing — and the market spills along the main street and into the side lanes. Weekends bring traffic in and out of the town; arrive early or stay overnight.
