Playa San Luis

The city's main beach, a long curve of Caribbean sand

Playa San Luis is the city's main beach, a long arc of pale sand and palms along the bay west of the old town. The water is calm and warm year-round, and the shaded promenade behind is lined with simple seafood kiosks selling fried fish, empanadas, and cold beer.

Weekends are the busy time, when local families fill the beach and the music gets loud. Weekday mornings are peaceful and a good time for a swim. It is an easy 15-minute walk or short taxi ride from the centre.
