Getting There

Batna has an airport — Mostefa Ben Boulaïd Airport — with Air Algérie flights to Algiers. The schedule is limited, so check in advance. Flying in and then renting a car at the airport is the most practical way to base yourself here for Timgad and the Aurès.

By train, Batna sits on the main eastern rail line connecting Algiers with Annaba and the Tunisian border. Several trains daily link it to Algiers (roughly 4–5 hours) and to Constantine (about 1.5 hours). The station is in the centre of town.

Long-distance buses (the SNT company and private operators) run from Batna to Algiers, Constantine, Sétif, and most other major cities. They are cheap, reliable enough, and the main option for budget travellers. The bus station is near the market area in the town centre.

From Constantine, shared taxis (louages) also cover the route frequently and are faster than the bus.
