The island is long — stretching around 30 km from north to south — but narrow, rarely more than a few hundred metres wide. Most visitors stay in the northern portion, which is where the restaurants, bars, and any accommodation are concentrated.
Within the built-up northern area, walking is the easiest way to get around. The distances between the lagoon-side restaurants and the ocean beach are short. Bicycles can sometimes be hired from locals or from beach establishments, and riding the length of accessible tracks is a pleasant way to explore.
For reaching the more remote southern stretches of the island, boat hire is the practical option. The island thins and becomes increasingly wild the further south you go, and few people venture far from the northern cluster of facilities.
