The lagoon-facing shore of Mussulo is the social heart of the island. The water here is sheltered from the Atlantic swell, warm year-round, and shallow enough for comfortable wading and swimming. A string of informal beach bars and restaurant shacks lines the sand, serving fresh grilled fish, prawns, and cold Cuca beer — the Angolan national lager. On weekends tables fill quickly, and the atmosphere is lively.
This is also where most of the boat traffic arrives from Capisoca, so it is the natural starting point for any visit. Chairs and umbrellas can usually be hired from the restaurants for a small fee. The mudflats and reed beds at the northern lagoon tip are worth a short walk for anyone interested in birdlife.
