Getting There

By air: Cadjehoun Airport (COO) is Cotonou's international airport, located about 5 km from the city centre. Air France, Ethiopian Airlines, Air Côte d'Ivoire, and Royal Air Maroc all serve Cotonou, connecting to Paris, Addis Ababa, Abidjan, Casablanca, and a growing number of African hubs. The airport is small but functional; a taxi to the centre should cost no more than a few dollars if negotiated in advance.

By road: Bush taxis (sept-places) and minibuses connect Cotonou to Lagos (around 2–3 hours via the border at Sème-Kraké), Lomé (about 2 hours), and interior destinations including Porto-Novo (20 minutes), Ouidah (40 minutes), and Abomey (2 hours). Most long-distance vehicles depart from the main motor park near the Dantokpa market area. The roads to Porto-Novo, Ouidah, and Abomey are paved and in reasonable condition.

By sea: There is a large commercial port, but no regular passenger ferry service for tourists.
