The Grand Marché d'Adjara sits just east of Porto-Novo and convenes on a four-day rotation cycle. On market days the site fills with traders from the surrounding villages selling cloth, foodstuffs, pottery, and livestock. The rhythm of trade here has continued for centuries and the market is a good place to encounter everyday Beninese commercial life outside the tourist circuit.
