Palais Royal (Musée Honmè)

Former royal palace preserving Yoruba dynasty court treasures

The former royal palace of King Toffa is now the Musée Honmè, one of the most rewarding museums in Benin. The rooms preserve throne furniture, royal regalia, genealogical paintings, and objects from the court of the Yoruba dynasty that ruled Porto-Novo before and during the colonial period. Wandering its courtyards gives a tangible sense of how African monarchy was organised and displayed.
